Yes this is a terrible photo but I was anticipating that and you should have seen it before I reduced it and size and sharpened it a lot!
This shot is looking east into the chancel and shows in the foreground the communion table and a chair (a lectern is just out of shot to the right) that have been positioned at the end of the nave to bring everyone closer together in what is quite a big church. The pews have also been arranged into more of a semi-circle. Liturgical reordering for worship 'in the round' such as this was apparently popular in the 1970s.
It can also be seen that in St Mary's the pulpit is on the south side of the church and the lectern the north, which is not the traditional way around but by no means uncommon.
